> Using ChatGPT to read and analyse your Google Ads account is not the same as buying ads inside ChatGPT. Three ways to connect, what is safe, and what to check first.

## Two different things, both called "ChatGPT and your ads"

Search this topic and two unrelated products get mixed together. This guide is about the first one only.

Using ChatGPT to analyse ad accounts you already runYou export, connect or feed data from Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Amazon Ads or Microsoft Advertising into ChatGPT, and ask it questions about performance. ChatGPT reads. It does not buy media anywhere by default.
Buying ads inside ChatGPT itselfOpenAI's own ad product, bought and managed in OpenAI Ads Manager, shows sponsored units below a ChatGPT answer. This is a media buy, billed by OpenAI, and it has nothing to do with your Google or Meta account. See what ChatGPT ads are and how they work if that is what you actually came here for.

This page covers the first one: turning ChatGPT into an analyst that sits on top of accounts you already manage elsewhere. Later on we cover where the two products genuinely do meet, because OpenAI is now building a bridge between them.

## The three connection methods, compared

There is no single official way to do this, because it depends on which platform you are pulling from and what your ChatGPT plan supports. In general terms, there are three routes.

| Method | How data gets in | Best for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Export and upload | You download a report file from the ad platform and upload it to a ChatGPT conversation | A one off question, a single audit, a board pack you need explained |
| Live connector or MCP server | ChatGPT reads current account data directly through a connector, if your plan and the platform both support one | Ongoing monitoring, recurring questions, a standing dashboard style chat |
| API or script into a sheet | Your own script, or a third party tool, pulls data through the ad platform's own API into a spreadsheet, and ChatGPT reads or is connected to that sheet | Multi platform reporting, custom metrics, anything the platform's own export screen does not offer |

None of the three is universally better. Match the method to how often you need the answer and how much of your own engineering time you want to spend keeping it running.

## Method 1: export a report, upload it to a chat

This is the route with the lowest setup cost and the lowest risk, and it is where we tell most people to start.

Export the report you needFrom Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Amazon Ads console or Microsoft Advertising, use the platform's own reporting screen to download a CSV or spreadsheet covering the date range and columns you care about.
Upload it to a ChatGPT conversationAttach the file and describe what you want checked: a spend anomaly, a week on week comparison, which campaigns carried a conversion drop, a plain language summary for a client.
Ask a specific question, not a general one"Which campaigns lost the most conversions week over week, and what changed in their spend at the same time" gets a more useful answer than "how is this account doing."
Verify anything you plan to act onTreat the summary as a first pass. Cross check any number you intend to report externally or act on against the platform itself before you rely on it.

Nothing here grants ChatGPT ongoing access to anything. The file exists only in that conversation. For a single audit, a monthly report you need turned into plain language, or a question you only need answered once, this is the whole job.

## Method 2: a live connector or MCP server

This is the route people mean when they ask about connecting Google Ads to ChatGPT properly, rather than uploading a file each time.

Model Context Protocol, MCP, is an open standard for connecting an assistant like ChatGPT to an external tool or data source through a defined interface, so the assistant can call that tool or read that data as part of answering a question, rather than you pasting it in by hand. It is a protocol, not a product. Anyone can build an MCP server for a given data source, including an ad platform, a database or an internal reporting tool. Whether one exists for a given platform, whether it is officially supported, and which ChatGPT plans or account types can use it, changes as both OpenAI and the ad platforms update their own products. We are not going to name specific menus, plan tiers or availability here, because stating that as fact today risks being wrong by the time you read it. Check OpenAI's own current documentation, and the ad platform's own developer or partner documentation, before you plan a workflow around a specific connector existing.

What stays true regardless of the exact interface OpenAI ships this quarter:

It is a read path by defaultA connector built for reporting reads data. Whether it can also write, such as pausing a campaign or changing a budget, is a separate and much bigger permission decision, covered in the security checklist below.
Freshness beats a monthly exportThe advantage over uploading files is that the data ChatGPT sees reflects the account close to real time, rather than whatever the report looked like on the day you exported it.
Setup is not trivialA live connector usually means authenticating the connection, choosing what scope of data it can see, and deciding who else in your organisation can use that connected chat. This is closer to setting up an integration than uploading a file.

If you are technical enough to run your own MCP server against the Google Ads API, LinkedIn Marketing API or another platform's API, that is also a legitimate version of this route, and it gives you the most control over exactly what is exposed and to whom. It is also the most engineering time, and the one most likely to go stale if nobody owns maintaining it.

## Method 3: scripts or the platform's own API, feeding a sheet

The route most agencies were already doing before anyone called it connecting ChatGPT to an ad account.

Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Amazon Ads and Microsoft Advertising each publish their own API. A script, or a third party marketing data connector tool, can pull defined metrics on a schedule into a Google Sheet or an Excel file. From there, ChatGPT either reads that file when you upload it, or, where your plan supports it, connects to the live sheet directly.

This is the route with the most flexibility and the most upfront work. You are not limited to whatever columns a platform's export screen happens to offer, you can combine several platforms into one sheet, and you can build the exact metric definitions your business actually uses. The cost is that somebody has to build the script or configure the connector tool, keep API credentials valid, and fix it when a platform changes its API version. This is a genuine maintenance job, not a one time setup.

## What a connected ChatGPT is actually good at

Our own view, based on using it this way ourselves.

Spotting a pattern across a wide table quicklyAsking it to find every campaign where cost per conversion doubled while spend stayed flat is faster than scanning the table yourself, and it will find rows you would have scrolled past.
Turning a spreadsheet into a plain language summaryA client update, a weekly note to a manager, an executive summary of a quarter, written from real numbers rather than written first and checked against numbers second.
Holding several platforms' numbers in one conversationComparing a Google Ads cost per lead against a Meta cost per lead in the same chat, once both are in front of it, is quicker than tabbing between two dashboards yourself.
Drafting the first version of an analysisA first pass at "why did conversions drop" that you then check, rather than staring at a blank document.

## What it is bad at, and where we would not trust it unchecked

Attribution judgement callsWhether a conversion genuinely came from an ad, versus a coincidence of timing, is a judgement call platforms themselves get wrong. A connected assistant reading the numbers as given will repeat whatever attribution logic produced them, not correct it.
Anything it cannot seeIf your sheet only has last click data, it will reason as if last click is the whole picture, because that is all it was given. It cannot know what was left out of the export.
Small sample sizesA pattern across 12 conversions read the same confident way as a pattern across 1,200. Ask it directly whether the sample is large enough to trust before treating a conclusion as fact.
Anything you have not verified against the platformNumbers can be mis-read from a file, columns can be mislabelled, currency can be mixed up across accounts billing in different currencies. Check anything before you report it externally, the same discipline you would apply to a junior analyst's first draft.

## Security checklist before you connect anything

This is the section to actually slow down and read, because a mistake here is not a bad report, it is exposed account access.

Read only, unless you have a specific reason for write accessAnalysis needs to read data, not change a campaign. Default to a read only role or scope on every connection, and treat write access as a separate decision made deliberately, not a default you left switched on.
A dedicated user or service account, never your own loginCreate a specific login for the connection with exactly the role it needs. If it is compromised or the connection needs to be cut, you remove one account rather than rotating your own credentials and everything else tied to them.
No billing or payment permissions, everAn analysis connection has no legitimate reason to touch a payment method, a billing profile or invoicing. If a role or scope bundles billing access in with reporting access, look for a narrower role before accepting the bundle.
Know how to revoke it before you grant itFind the token, API key or connected app entry in the ad platform's own settings before you connect anything, so that revoking access on a bad day is a one minute job, not a support ticket.
Check the connector or tool's own data handlingA live connector or a third party sheet tool is a separate company sitting between the ad platform and ChatGPT. Read what it does with the data it reads, how long it retains it, and whether that fits any client data agreement or your own company's data policy.
Never paste customer level personal data into a chatAggregated performance numbers are one thing. A list of customer names, emails, phone numbers or order details is another. Keep personal data out of the conversation entirely, and prefer aggregated exports over raw customer lists whenever the analysis does not genuinely require individual rows.
Put a client data agreement in place before connecting a client's accountIf you manage ad accounts for clients, confirm what your agreement with them permits before feeding their data through any assistant, connector or third party tool, including this one.

None of this is unique to ChatGPT. The same checklist applies to any assistant, script or dashboard tool you connect to a live ad account. ChatGPT is not more or less risky than the last reporting tool you granted access to. It deserves exactly the same scrutiny, no more and no less.

## The same playbook for Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Amazon and Microsoft

The three methods and the security checklist above apply the same way to every platform, with the details specific to each one.

| Platform | Export route | API for a script or sheet feed |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Meta Ads | Ads Manager reporting export, or Meta's own Ads Reporting tool | Meta Marketing API |
| TikTok Ads | TikTok Ads Manager reporting export | TikTok Marketing API |
| LinkedIn Ads | Campaign Manager reporting export | LinkedIn Marketing API |
| Amazon Ads | Amazon Ads console reporting export | Amazon Advertising API |
| Microsoft Advertising | Microsoft Advertising reporting export | Microsoft Advertising API |

Two things are worth naming per platform rather than assuming they behave identically. First, each platform's export screen offers a different default set of columns, so the fastest test of "does the export route cover what I need" is to open the reporting screen and check before assuming a script is required. Second, each API has its own access approval process and its own rate limits, so a script built against one platform's API is not a template you can drop unchanged onto another. If you are building a genuinely multi platform sheet, budget time for each API separately rather than treating the second and third platform as a copy paste job.

## How this relates to OpenAI Ads Manager

This is where the two subjects this guide separated at the top actually do meet, and it is worth understanding clearly rather than assuming they are the same thing.

We opened a fresh Ads Manager account of our own in September 2026 to check the current interface first hand. Inside it, on an account where setup was not yet finished, the sidebar carried a promo card reading: "Try Ads Manager in ChatGPT. Create, edit, and manage your campaigns with ChatGPT."

That is a different feature from anything else on this page. It is OpenAI building a way to manage your own OpenAI ad campaigns from inside a ChatGPT conversation, rather than only through the ads.openai.com web app. It is not a bridge that lets ChatGPT read or manage your Google Ads, Meta or TikTok account. Our [ChatGPT ads news and rollout timeline](/guides/chatgpt-ads-news/) already covers a related, separate development: OpenAI's account setup documentation describes eligible advertisers being able to begin self serve Ads Manager account setup directly inside ChatGPT, with the same rules that apply on the web app.

Put together, the honest picture is this. OpenAI is investing in making ChatGPT itself the interface for managing its own ad product. That is a genuinely different project from a third party, or an advertiser, building a connection that lets ChatGPT analyse a Google Ads or Meta account. Both trends point the same general direction, an assistant sitting closer to ad management workflows, but one is OpenAI's own roadmap for its own ads product, and the other is something you build yourself using the three methods above.

## Common mistakes

Granting write access because a connector offers itAvailable is not the same as needed. Start read only and add write access later, deliberately, if a specific recurring task genuinely requires it.
Using a personal or admin login for the connectionIt works until that person leaves the company or changes their password, and then the connection breaks or, worse, keeps working under credentials nobody is tracking.
Assuming ChatGPT's summary is the final answerA summary from a connected assistant is a first draft. Verify a number against the platform itself before it goes into a client report or a board pack.
Mixing currencies across accounts without checkingAn agency running a UAE account billed in AED alongside a Saudi account billed in SAR, or a global account billed in USD, has to confirm which currency a pulled number is actually in before comparing it to another account's numbers.
Building a script feed and never revisiting itPlatform APIs change versions and deprecate fields. A feed built once and left alone eventually breaks silently or, worse, keeps running on stale logic.
Treating a small ad account's data as ready for pattern findingAn account with a handful of conversions a week does not have enough volume for a connected assistant to find a reliable pattern in. Ask it to say so rather than asking it to find one anyway.

## UAE and Gulf specifics

Most UAE businesses running paid media juggle at least two platforms, commonly Google Ads and Meta, sometimes with TikTok or Snapchat alongside them, each billed in a different currency depending on how the account was set up. Before connecting anything, confirm which currency each account bills in; AED, SAR, USD and GBP billed accounts all appear in this region, and a connected assistant comparing spend across them needs to be told which figures need converting rather than assuming it can tell from the raw numbers.

The UAE's data protection law applies to personal data your business processes, including customer data that can end up in an ad platform's conversion exports. If you manage ad accounts for clients under an agency arrangement, the client data agreement point in the security checklist above is not a formality here, confirm in writing what you are permitted to connect, upload or process before doing it, and keep personal data out of any chat regardless of what the agreement allows in principle.

If your business is testing OpenAI's own ad product alongside this kind of analysis setup, our [ChatGPT ads in the UAE](/guides/chatgpt-ads-uae/) guide covers that account separately, and our [ChatGPT ads versus Google ads](/guides/chatgpt-ads-vs-google-ads/) comparison is the place to start if you are deciding how to split a test budget between the two rather than only analysing accounts you already run.

Big AL Consulting does not sell search engine optimisation as a service, our work is paid media strategy and management, and a connected reporting setup of this kind is something we build as part of that work, not a standalone product we sell on its own.

## Quick answers

**Can I actually connect Google Ads to ChatGPT?**
Yes, in three general ways: upload an exported report to a chat, use a live connector or MCP server if your ChatGPT plan and Google Ads access support one, or feed a Google Sheet from the Google Ads API or a third party connector and point ChatGPT at that sheet. Which menus and plans support a live connector changes, so check OpenAI's current documentation before you plan around a specific one.

**Is this the same as OpenAI Ads Manager?**
No. OpenAI Ads Manager is the platform for buying ChatGPT's own ad inventory, the sponsored units that appear below an answer. Connecting Google Ads to ChatGPT is the opposite direction: using ChatGPT as an analyst on an account you already run elsewhere. The two can sit side by side but they are unrelated products.

**What is an MCP server, in plain terms?**
Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an assistant like ChatGPT call an external tool or read external data through a defined interface, rather than you copying and pasting data in manually. An MCP server built for an ad platform is one implementation of that standard, aimed at one specific data source.

**Is it safe to connect my ad account to ChatGPT?**
It can be, if the connection is read only, uses a dedicated login rather than your own, carries no billing or payment permission, and you have checked what the connector's own provider does with the data it reads. Treat it the same way you would treat handing an intern log in access: least privilege, and revocable in one click.

**Can ChatGPT pause my Google Ads campaigns or change my budget on its own?**
Only if you have granted it write access and told it to, and only through a connector or workflow built to allow that action. A read only connection cannot change anything, and we recommend starting there regardless of what write access a given tool offers.

**What permissions should I give a connected ChatGPT?**
The minimum the task needs. For analysis, that is read only reporting access, on a dedicated user or service account, with no access to billing, payment methods or account level user management.

**Can I connect Meta Ads, TikTok Ads or LinkedIn Ads to ChatGPT the same way?**
The same three routes apply: export and upload, a live connector or MCP server where one exists for that platform, or an API feed into a sheet. Each platform's own export tools and API differ in detail, but the security checklist is the same for all of them.

**Does connecting my ad account to ChatGPT cost anything extra?**
It depends on the route. Uploading exported files costs nothing beyond your existing ChatGPT plan. A live connector may require a specific ChatGPT plan tier, and an API or script based feed into a sheet may involve a third party connector tool with its own pricing. Check the current terms of whichever plan or tool you are considering.

**What is the simplest way to get Google Ads data into ChatGPT for a one off question?**
Export the report you want from Google Ads as a CSV, upload it to a ChatGPT conversation, and ask a specific question about it. No connector, no API, no setup, and nothing is granted ongoing access to your account.

**Can an agency use this to report on client ad accounts?**
Yes, and the same rule applies as everywhere else in this field: use a dedicated login the client's account grants to the agency with the narrowest role available, never the client's own admin credentials, and never paste a client's customer level personal data into a chat.
