The short version

A context hint set is not a list of keywords, it is two to eight sentences that tell OpenAI's system what your offer actually is, who it suits and when it matters, following the what, who, when structure OpenAI describes. Below are full hint sets for 20 UAE industries, each with a matching ad headline and a short note on the mistake we see most often in that industry. Read our context hints guide first if you have not written any yet, since it covers the four qualities OpenAI asks for: additional, specific, relevant and accurate.

How to read each example

Every industry below follows the same pattern: six to eight hints, one ad group focus, one matching headline that a real ad for that focus could use, and one thing to avoid. These are illustrations written by gptads.ae to demonstrate the format. Swap in details that are true for your business before using any of them. Each set runs longer than a real ad group strictly needs, precisely so you can see the range of what, who and when detail and keep only the lines that are true for your offer. Every matching headline below is kept within the 50 character title field OpenAI's own campaign builder enforces, shown with its character count, since a title is validated against that limit the moment you type it, not just recommended in help documentation.

What, who and when, in one table

OpenAI frames every context hint around three questions, and no hint needs to answer all three at once. Use this as a quick check against any hint you write, including the twenty sets below.

Question What it captures Weak example Strong example
What Features, pricing, availability, service area "Cleaning services" "Weekly and biweekly home cleaning for apartments and villas across Dubai"
Who The customer need, preference or circumstance the offer suits "For everyone" "For tenants moving into a new apartment who need a one time deep clean before move in"
When The situation or decision moment the offer is useful for "Anytime" "For households wanting the same cleaner assigned to every visit"

Strong versus weak hints, five rewrites

The table above shows one rewrite per question. Here are five more, taken from common first drafts we see, with the fix and the reason in each case.

Weak hint Strong rewrite Why the rewrite works
"Home cleaning Dubai" "Weekly home cleaning for apartments and villas across Dubai" Three isolated words describe a search box, not an offer. The rewrite names the service pattern and the property types it covers
"Best lawyer in Dubai" "Commercial contract drafting for SME founders negotiating a first supplier agreement" A superlative claim gives OpenAI's system nothing concrete to match. The rewrite states the service and the exact situation a founder is in
"Show this ad to CFOs only" "Group medical insurance for teams of 10 to 200 employees" The first line is a delivery instruction OpenAI states hints cannot enforce. The second describes the offer itself, which naturally suits a CFO's decision without instructing anyone
"24 hour support" "Emergency AC repair with same day call out across Dubai and Abu Dhabi" A bare claim on its own does not say what problem it solves. The rewrite names the service, the speed and the area together
"10 years of experience" "For companies replacing a departing senior hire who gave short notice" OpenAI's what, who, when framework wants the customer's situation, not the advertiser's history. Experience belongs on the landing page, not in the hint

1. Home cleaning and maintenance services

Ad group focus: recurring residential cleaning for apartments and villas.

  • Weekly and biweekly home cleaning for apartments and villas across Dubai
  • Maids supplied with cleaning materials and equipment included in the visit
  • For tenants moving into a new apartment who need a one time deep clean before move in
  • Same week booking for a first time trial clean
  • Background checked staff for recurring visits to the same household
  • For households wanting the same cleaner assigned to every visit
  • Villa exterior and garden maintenance available as an add on to interior cleaning
  • For landlords preparing a unit for a new tenant between contracts

Matching headline: "Recurring home cleaning, same cleaner every visit" (49/50 characters)

What to avoid: a hint like "show this to busy professionals only". That is a delivery instruction, not a description, and OpenAI states hints cannot enforce that kind of exclusion.

2. Freight and logistics, B2B

Ad group focus: SME importers needing customs clearance and last mile delivery.

  • Sea and air freight forwarding for SMEs importing into Jebel Ali and Dubai South
  • Customs clearance handled end to end for first time importers
  • For companies shipping less than a full container load who need consolidation
  • Warehousing and last mile delivery across the UAE from a single provider
  • For ecommerce businesses needing fulfilment without their own warehouse
  • Real time shipment tracking from origin port to final delivery address
  • Bonded warehousing for goods awaiting re-export from a free zone
  • For manufacturers moving from a single supplier country to multiple sourcing markets

Matching headline: "Freight forwarding and UAE customs clearance" (44/50 characters)

What to avoid: describing the company instead of the customer's situation, for example "20 years of logistics experience". OpenAI's what, who, when framework wants the customer's need, not your history.

3. Wedding and events planning

Ad group focus: couples planning a Dubai wedding within a set budget and timeline.

  • Full wedding planning in Dubai from venue booking to day of coordination
  • For couples planning a wedding within nine months who have not yet booked a venue
  • Fixed package pricing for weddings between 80 and 250 guests
  • Vendor management included, covering catering, decor and photography
  • For couples balancing a mixed guest list across two cultural wedding formats
  • Outdoor and beach venue options across Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah
  • For families planning an engagement event separately from the main wedding
  • Day of coordination available as a standalone service for couples who planned everything else themselves

Matching headline: "Full Dubai wedding planning, fixed packages" (43/50 characters)

What to avoid: one generic hint covering the whole business, like "wedding planner in Dubai". Split proposal planning, the main wedding and standalone day of coordination into their own ad groups, since each needs different messaging.

4. Fitness studios and gyms

Ad group focus: new members joining a boutique studio, not a large commercial gym.

  • Small group training classes capped at 12 people per session
  • For people who tried a large commercial gym and stopped attending within a few months
  • Trial class included before committing to a membership
  • Programming for strength, mobility and conditioning across a weekly schedule
  • For beginners returning to exercise after a long break
  • Locations across Dubai Marina, Downtown and Business Bay
  • Personal training add on available alongside group class membership
  • For members who need a schedule that changes week to week rather than a fixed class time

Matching headline: "Small group training, capped at 12 per class" (44/50 characters)

What to avoid: a hint that only lists equipment, like "gym with barbells and cardio machines". It describes a room, not a reason someone would choose this gym over another.

5. Beauty salons and spas

Ad group focus: first time bookings for a specific treatment category.

  • Hair colour and styling services in a salon setting, no home visits
  • For brides wanting a trial session before the wedding day itself
  • Facial and skincare treatments using named product lines available for online booking
  • For clients switching salons because their previous colourist relocated
  • Same week appointment availability for first time clients
  • Manicure and pedicure services with an online booking calendar
  • For clients researching a treatment they have not tried before and want it explained first
  • Loyalty pricing for clients booking a recurring monthly appointment

Matching headline: "Hair and skin treatments, book online this week" (47/50 characters)

What to avoid: bundling hair, skin and nail services into one hint set. Each treatment category has a different customer journey and usually needs its own ad group and landing page.

6. Cloud kitchen and food delivery

Ad group focus: repeat delivery orders in a specific cuisine category.

  • Home style cooked meals delivered across Dubai with no dine in location
  • For office workers ordering lunch who want a fixed weekly menu
  • Meal subscription plans billed weekly rather than per order
  • For people managing a specific dietary need such as low carb or high protein meals
  • Delivery windows aligned to typical lunch and dinner ordering times
  • Halal certified kitchen and ingredient sourcing
  • For households wanting to reduce cooking on weeknights without ordering from a restaurant app each time
  • Catering available for office and small event orders above a set headcount

Matching headline: "Home style meals, weekly menus for offices" (42/50 characters)

What to avoid: describing the cuisine only, such as "Italian food Dubai". Name the actual decision the customer is making, subscription versus one off order, dietary need, delivery timing.

7. Corporate and commercial law firm

Ad group focus: SME founders needing a specific contract or dispute service.

  • Commercial contract drafting and review for SMEs operating in the UAE
  • For founders negotiating a supplier or distribution agreement for the first time
  • Employment law advice covering UAE labour law compliance for growing teams
  • For companies handling a dispute with a former employee or business partner
  • Shareholder agreement drafting for companies bringing in a new investor
  • For two founders formalising a partnership that started informally
  • Debt recovery services for companies chasing unpaid invoices from UAE clients
  • For businesses needing a lawyer who works in both English and Arabic for the same matter

Matching headline: "Commercial contracts and disputes for UAE founders" (50/50 characters)

What to avoid: one hint trying to cover every practice area at once. A firm doing contracts, employment and debt recovery needs three ad groups, not one hint list with everything crammed in.

8. Insurance brokerage

Ad group focus: SME business insurance, not individual health or motor policies.

  • Business insurance packages for SMEs covering liability, property and business interruption
  • For companies renewing a policy who have not compared quotes from more than one insurer
  • Group medical insurance for teams of 10 to 200 employees
  • For HR teams managing renewal timing against staff onboarding cycles
  • Professional indemnity cover for consultancy and service businesses
  • For companies bidding on a contract that requires proof of specific insurance cover
  • Claims support included as part of the brokerage relationship, not only at renewal
  • For businesses switching brokers because of unclear claims handling with a previous provider

Matching headline: "SME business insurance, compared across insurers" (48/50 characters)

What to avoid: writing hints as if they are a delivery filter, such as "show only to companies with more than 50 staff". OpenAI states these are not targeting instructions. Describe what you cover and who it suits instead, and confirm separately that your account meets OpenAI's ads policy requirements for financial services, since regulated categories face stricter eligibility review.

9. Recruitment and staffing agencies

Ad group focus: employers hiring for a specific role category, not job seekers.

  • Recruitment for mid and senior level commercial roles across the UAE
  • For companies that have had a role open for more than two months without a hire
  • Contract and temporary staffing for short term project needs
  • For companies scaling a team quickly ahead of a specific launch date
  • Executive search for leadership hires within a defined salary band
  • For companies replacing a departing senior hire who gave short notice
  • Candidate shortlists delivered within a stated number of business days
  • For HR teams handling a role that needs bilingual English and Arabic candidates

Matching headline: "Mid to senior UAE hiring, shortlists in days" (44/50 characters)

What to avoid: targeting the wrong side of the marketplace. A recruitment agency selling to employers should not write hints describing job seekers, since that is a different ad group with a different landing page entirely.

10. Travel agency and tour operator

Ad group focus: UAE residents booking an international package holiday.

  • Package holidays from Dubai and Abu Dhabi including flights and hotel
  • For families planning a trip around UAE school holiday dates
  • Visa assistance included for destinations that require one for UAE residents
  • For travellers comparing a package price against booking flights and hotels separately
  • Group booking rates for travel parties of eight or more
  • Honeymoon packages with a fixed itinerary and optional add on experiences
  • For couples wanting a planned itinerary rather than booking each part of the trip themselves
  • Payment plans available for bookings made several months ahead of travel

Matching headline: "Package holidays from the UAE, flights included" (47/50 characters)

What to avoid: one hint set covering leisure travel and corporate travel management together. They are different customers with different decision processes and should be separate ad groups.

11. Moving and relocation services

Ad group focus: households relocating within the UAE or moving in from abroad.

  • Home removals within the UAE, including packing and furniture disassembly
  • For tenants moving out at the end of a rental contract with a fixed move out date
  • International relocation for households moving into the UAE from abroad
  • For new residents needing storage while they finalise a permanent home
  • Office relocation services including IT equipment handling
  • For companies relocating between free zones or moving to a larger office
  • Short term storage available between move out and move in dates
  • For households downsizing who need part of their furniture stored rather than moved

Matching headline: "UAE home removals, packing to storage to move in" (48/50 characters)

What to avoid: merging household moving and office relocation into one ad group. The buyer, the timeline and the landing page are different for each, which is exactly the split OpenAI's own ad group guidance asks for.

12. Dental and orthodontic clinics

Ad group focus: new patient bookings for general and cosmetic dentistry.

  • General and cosmetic dentistry with same week appointment availability in Dubai
  • For patients switching clinics because a previous dentist relocated or closed
  • Published pricing shown before booking, for patients without dental insurance
  • Direct billing accepted for major UAE insurance providers
  • For new residents who need a first check up and cleaning within their first months in the UAE
  • Clear aligner and orthodontic consultations available for adult patients
  • For parents booking a first dental visit for a young child
  • Emergency dental appointments available for pain that cannot wait for a routine slot

Matching headline: "Dental clinic in Dubai, transparent pricing" (43/50 characters)

What to avoid: writing a hint around a specific outcome claim, such as "perfect smile guaranteed". Healthcare is a regulated category, and OpenAI's requirement is accuracy, not a marketing promise a clinic cannot actually guarantee. Confirm eligibility under OpenAI's ads policies before building creative in this category.

13. Veterinary clinics and pet care

Ad group focus: routine and urgent veterinary visits for cats and dogs.

  • General veterinary checkups and vaccinations for cats and dogs in Dubai
  • For new pet owners bringing a puppy or kitten for its first vaccinations
  • Emergency and urgent care appointments available alongside routine bookings
  • For residents relocating to the UAE who need vaccination records transferred and verified
  • Pet boarding and grooming offered alongside clinical services at the same location
  • For owners comparing a clinic visit against a home visit vet for a routine checkup
  • Dental cleaning and minor surgical procedures available on site
  • For owners of an older pet needing more frequent monitoring visits

Matching headline: "Vet clinic in Dubai, same day appointments" (42/50 characters)

What to avoid: a hint written around the pet species alone, such as "vet for dogs". Name the actual service moment, a first vaccination, an emergency, a relocation, since that is what OpenAI's who and when structure is asking for.

14. Car servicing and auto repair

Ad group focus: routine servicing and repair, not new or pre-owned vehicle sales.

  • Routine servicing and repair for all makes, with same week booking in Dubai
  • For drivers whose dealer warranty has expired and want an independent workshop
  • Genuine or OEM equivalent parts used, with the choice explained before work starts
  • For company fleets needing scheduled servicing across multiple vehicles
  • Collection and drop off included at no charge within a defined service radius
  • For drivers who failed a vehicle inspection and need the flagged repair done quickly
  • Transparent quotes provided before any work is carried out
  • For owners comparing an independent workshop against the dealer service price

Matching headline: "Car servicing in Dubai, quoted before work starts" (49/50 characters)

What to avoid: one hint set covering both servicing and vehicle sales. A workshop and a dealership solve different problems for the driver, and mixing the two dilutes both.

15. Coworking and serviced offices

Ad group focus: small teams and freelancers needing flexible office space, not a property lease.

  • Coworking desks and private offices available on flexible monthly terms
  • For freelancers and small teams who do not want a long term commercial lease
  • Meeting rooms and event space bookable by the hour for members and non members
  • For a small team outgrowing a home office but not ready for a full office fit out
  • Business centre address and mail handling included with a desk membership
  • For companies needing a UAE business address without committing to their own premises
  • Day passes available for visitors and short term project teams
  • For a founder testing a new UAE market before signing a longer lease elsewhere

Matching headline: "Flexible coworking and private offices" (38/50 characters)

What to avoid: writing hints as if selling commercial real estate, such as "office space for sale" or "best commercial property Dubai". This is a membership and workspace service, not a property transaction, and the hints should describe the flexible terms, not a lease negotiation.

16. Driving schools

Ad group focus: new UAE licence applicants needing structured lessons.

  • Manual and automatic driving lessons for UAE licence applicants
  • For new residents converting a foreign driving licence that is not on the direct exchange list
  • Package pricing covering a set number of lessons before the road test
  • For learners who failed the road test once and need focused practice before retrying
  • Female instructors available on request
  • For working professionals who need lesson times outside standard office hours
  • Pickup and drop off included from a home or office address
  • For residents on a visa timeline who need licence completion before a specific date

Matching headline: "UAE driving lessons, package pricing" (36/50 characters)

What to avoid: a hint describing the instructor's general experience instead of the learner's actual situation, such as "expert instructors". Name the real decision points instead: licence conversion, a retest, a scheduling constraint.

17. Money exchange and remittance services

Ad group focus: UAE residents sending money abroad regularly.

  • Money transfer and currency exchange for UAE residents sending funds abroad
  • For workers sending a recurring monthly remittance to family in another country
  • Competitive exchange rates shown before a transfer is confirmed
  • For residents comparing a money exchange counter against a bank transfer for cost and speed
  • Same day transfer available for a defined list of destination countries
  • For businesses needing to exchange currency for supplier payments abroad
  • Registered and regulated money exchange service under UAE Central Bank oversight
  • For new residents setting up a recurring transfer for the first time

Matching headline: "Money transfer from the UAE, rates shown upfront" (48/50 characters)

What to avoid: quoting a specific exchange rate inside the hint itself. Rates move daily, and OpenAI requires hints to stay accurate as details change, so a rate is better shown on the landing page at the moment of transfer than baked into a hint that goes stale within a day. This is a regulated financial service, so confirm eligibility under OpenAI's ads policies before building creative.

18. IT support and managed services for SMEs

Ad group focus: SMEs replacing ad hoc IT support with a managed contract.

  • Managed IT support for UAE SMEs, replacing ad hoc callout based support
  • For companies that currently call a freelancer or friend when something breaks
  • Cybersecurity monitoring and backup management included in the support contract
  • For companies handling a client or regulatory requirement for documented IT security
  • Helpdesk response times covered under a defined service level agreement
  • For growing teams outgrowing what one in house IT person can cover alone
  • Microsoft 365 and cloud migration support for companies still running on premise servers
  • For companies opening a second UAE office that needs the same IT setup replicated

Matching headline: "Managed IT support for UAE SMEs, response SLAs" (46/50 characters)

What to avoid: a hint listing every technology the company supports, such as "Windows, Mac, cloud, network, security". That is a capability list, not a customer situation. Anchor each hint in the moment that pushes a business to look for managed IT support in the first place.

19. Nursery and early years childcare

Ad group focus: parents enrolling a child in nursery for the first time or after relocating.

  • Nursery places for children from six months to four years in Dubai
  • For families relocating to the UAE who need a place within a specific timeframe
  • British, American or bilingual curriculum options across different nursery locations
  • For working parents comparing full day against half day nursery schedules
  • Settling in sessions offered before a child's official start date
  • For parents moving a child from one nursery because of a relocation within the UAE
  • Meals and nap schedules explained clearly on the nursery's own page
  • For parents enrolling a second child at the same nursery as an older sibling

Matching headline: "Nursery places in Dubai, full and half day" (42/50 characters)

What to avoid: writing a hint focused on facilities alone, such as "nursery with a large playground". Parents choosing a nursery are usually deciding against a timeline, a curriculum and a schedule, not a facility list, so anchor hints there instead.

20. Home appliance repair and maintenance

Ad group focus: repair and maintenance for washing machines, refrigerators and other white goods.

  • Same week repair for washing machines, refrigerators, ovens and other home appliances
  • For tenants whose landlord requires a receipt for an approved repair before reimbursement
  • Genuine spare parts used, with the part cost confirmed before work begins
  • For households comparing a repair against replacing an appliance outright
  • Annual maintenance contracts covering multiple appliances at one property
  • For new residents whose appliances came with the apartment and have no warranty on file
  • Weekend appointment slots available alongside weekday bookings
  • For landlords managing repairs across more than one rented unit

Matching headline: "Appliance repair in Dubai, cost confirmed upfront" (49/50 characters)

What to avoid: a hint naming every appliance brand serviced, such as "we fix Samsung, LG, Bosch and Whirlpool". Brand coverage matters less to the system than the customer's actual situation, a landlord's paperwork need, a warranty gap, a repair versus replace decision.

The pattern across all 20

Every set above follows the same structure: a few hints describe the what, features, pricing or availability, a few describe the who, the type of customer or situation, and a few describe the when, the moment a decision is being made. None of them tell the system who to show the ad to. That is the one rule that carries across every industry, and it is worth rereading our context hints guide if a hint you wrote reads like an instruction rather than a description.

Five hint patterns, and which industries lean on each

Our own way of grouping the hints above, not an OpenAI classification.

Reading back through the twenty sets on this page, most individual hints fall into one of five recognisable shapes. None of these is an OpenAI term. They are simply a way to check your own draft against a known good pattern before you decide a hint is finished.

Pattern What it states Typical opener
Feature A concrete detail of the offer itself: price, inclusion, availability "Fixed fee", "Same day", "Included"
Situation The circumstance a type of customer is in "For tenants who...", "For companies that..."
Trigger moment The event or decision point that makes the offer relevant now "For a first time...", "For someone renewing..."
Comparison The choice a customer is actively weighing between two options "For buyers comparing...", "For owners deciding between..."
Combined What, who and when in a single sentence, the fullest form OpenAI's own running shoe example is this pattern
Industry Feature example Situation example Trigger moment example Comparison example
Home cleaning Maids supplied with materials included For tenants moving into a new apartment Same week booking for a first time trial Weekly versus biweekly frequency, chosen by the household
Freight and logistics Real time shipment tracking from origin to delivery For ecommerce businesses needing fulfilment For manufacturers moving to multiple sourcing markets For companies shipping less than a full container load, choosing consolidation over a dedicated container
Dental clinics Published pricing shown before booking For new residents needing a first check up Emergency appointments for pain that cannot wait For patients without insurance weighing self pay against a provider with direct billing
Veterinary clinics Same day appointments most weekdays For new pet owners with a first vaccination For residents relocating with records to transfer For owners comparing a clinic visit against a home visit vet
Car servicing Transparent quotes before work starts For fleets needing scheduled servicing For drivers who failed an inspection For drivers comparing an independent workshop against the dealer price
Coworking Business address and mail handling included For freelancers avoiding a long lease For a team outgrowing a home office For a founder testing a market before signing a longer lease elsewhere
IT support Helpdesk response times under a service level agreement For companies outgrowing one in house IT person For a second office needing the same setup replicated Managed support compared against ad hoc callout support
Nursery and childcare Meals and nap schedules explained on the nursery page For families relocating within a set timeframe For a second child joining an older sibling Full day compared against half day schedules

Exclusion lines: 12 ways to say who the offer is not for

OpenAI is explicit that context hints are not targeting rules. They cannot block an ad from a particular audience, geography or schedule, and a hint that reads like an instruction, "show this only to", "exclude", works against that guidance rather than with it. What a hint can do is describe your offer by contrast, stating plainly who or what it is not built for, so the description itself is sharper and more accurate. Read every line below as shaping relevance, not as a delivery switch.

Price level

  • For buyers comparing a premium, fully project managed finish, not the lowest cost option in the market
  • Built for offices from 2,000 square feet upward, not a single room fit out

Geography

  • Serving Dubai and Abu Dhabi, not currently covering the Northern Emirates
  • Delivery within the UAE mainland, not offshore or outside our current coverage area

Business size

  • Built for teams of 20 to 200 staff, not a sole trader managing payroll alone
  • For SME importers shipping less than a full container load, not enterprise freight volumes

Urgency

  • For a same week booking, not a routine appointment scheduled months ahead
  • For a renewal due in the next 60 days, not a policy that was just signed

Category

  • For general and cosmetic dentistry, not orthodontic treatment handled by a separate specialist
  • For business insurance, not personal health or motor cover
  • For household moving, not a full commercial office relocation
  • For pre-owned vehicles specifically, not new car inventory

How many hints per ad group, and how long

OpenAI does not publish a fixed number of hints per ad group, and it does not publish a minimum or maximum hint length in characters or words either. What it does state is the goal: hints should be additional, specific, relevant and accurate, which points toward quality over a target count. In our own account, the field itself, labelled "Context hints (optional)" under "Ad delivery & tracking" in the ad group step of the campaign builder, confirmed that nothing about the field enforces a number or a length; it is a single text area with placeholder text inviting you to "Enter some context hints," and a campaign can be created and launched with it left empty.

Where OpenAI is silent, our own approach is two to eight hints per ad group, covering a mix of the five patterns above rather than five versions of the same one. The sets on this page run toward the upper end of that range deliberately, to show the full spread. A real ad group rarely needs all of it: keep the hints that are true and specific to your offer, and drop the rest.

From a Google Ads keyword list to a context hint

A team moving from Google Ads brings keyword habits that do not transfer directly. The table below shows the shift, using the home cleaning example above as the working case.

Google Ads habit What it produces ChatGPT ads equivalent What it produces
Exact match keyword "home cleaning dubai" A what hint "Weekly and biweekly home cleaning for apartments and villas across Dubai"
Negative keyword Exclude "cleaning jobs", "cleaning course" Not supported the same way Hints describe your offer positively; they cannot exclude an audience or a phrase
Location targeting Bid adjustment by area Not a hint function Location eligibility is a campaign or account level setting, not a context hint
Ad extension with a promotion "20% off first clean" shown as an extension A when or what hint, if still accurate "Same week booking for a first time trial clean", kept current as the offer changes

Where these hints actually live, and what happens to them

Context hints sit at ad group level in Ads Manager, inside the same screen where the bid strategy is set. In our own new UAE account, the ad group step of the campaign builder showed a section called "Ad delivery & tracking" with a text area labelled "Context hints (optional)" and the placeholder text "Enter some context hints," sitting next to "Bid strategy" and tracking parameters, before moving on to the Ad step. The field is optional in the interface itself, which matches OpenAI's help documentation: nothing in Ads Manager forces you to fill it in before a campaign can launch. That does not make it worth skipping. A campaign can run with an empty hints field, but every one of the twenty sets above exists because a filled in, accurate hint set gives OpenAI's system more to work with than an ad and landing page alone, not because the field is mandatory.

Hints are never shown to a ChatGPT user. OpenAI is explicit that they inform relevance rather than acting as an exact match keyword, and that a person does not need to type your exact words for the underlying need to match. This is also why a bulk uploaded ad group's hints are treated as a full replacement rather than an addition: if you re-upload an ad group with three hints where it previously had eight, the five missing hints are gone, not merged. Review the current list before a bulk edit rather than assuming it only adds to what is already there.

What OpenAI has not published

Gaps in OpenAI's public documentation, not our assumptions.
  • No published maximum number of context hints per ad group. OpenAI's guidance describes quality over quantity, without a stated ceiling.
  • No published minimum or maximum hint length in characters or words.
  • No published confirmation of whether hints are weighted differently by position in the list, first versus last.
  • No published detail on how quickly an edited hint takes effect in delivery after it is saved.

UAE and Gulf specifics for context hints

Write a UAE hint the way a resident actually asks ChatGPT, not the way a Google search box is typed. "Nursery near me open now" is a search habit. "A bilingual nursery for a two year old starting in January after we relocate to Dubai" is closer to how someone actually describes their situation in a conversation, and it is also closer to what a strong context hint should capture on the who and when side. For Arabic hints, write directly in Gulf Arabic rather than translating the English set word for word, since a translated hint often keeps an English sentence structure that a Gulf Arabic speaker would not actually use. If your business also serves Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain or Oman, write a separate hint set per market rather than one Gulf-wide set, since a service area, a price and a proof point that are true in Dubai are not automatically true in Riyadh. See our Saudi Arabia and Gulf service for how we handle that split in practice.

Draft your own hint set

If you would rather start from a draft than a blank page, our context hint generator takes a short description of your offer, who it helps and when it is useful, and drafts eight hints that follow OpenAI's published rules. It is limited to six runs a day per visitor, and every draft is written by an AI model from what you type, so treat the output the way you would treat any first draft: check each line is true for your business, keep the ones that describe a real situation your customers are in, and delete anything that just repeats your headline. It will not draft anything for a category OpenAI treats as sensitive; that check happens automatically before you see a result.

Quick answers

How many context hints should one ad group have?

OpenAI does not publish a fixed number. Our approach is two to eight per ad group, each covering one distinct idea, grouped around a single product, service or customer need. The sets below run longer than a real ad group needs so you can see the full range and pick the true ones.

Can I reuse the same context hints across every ad group in a campaign?

You can, but it works against OpenAI's own guidance to separate ad groups by use case. If two ad groups need the same hints, they are probably the same ad group.

Do context hints need to include my city name?

Only if it is true and useful. OpenAI's rule is accuracy, not keyword coverage. Naming a service area you actually cover is fine. Naming a city to try to bias delivery toward it is not how hints work.

What is the biggest mistake in these examples?

Writing a hint as an instruction, such as telling the system who to show the ad to, instead of a description of the offer. OpenAI states hints are not targeting rules and do not guarantee delivery to particular audiences.

Should regulated businesses like insurance or clinics use context hints differently?

The hints themselves follow the same rules. What changes is eligibility. OpenAI applies stricter review to regulated categories such as health and financial services, and that review happens at the ads policy level, not inside the context hint field.

Should a context hint be written in Arabic for a UAE audience?

OpenAI does not publish a language restriction on context hints. Our approach is to write hints in the language your customer would actually type or say to ChatGPT, which for an Arabic speaking audience means writing a genuine Arabic hint rather than translating the English one word for word.

Can a context hint mention a price?

Yes, if it is accurate and current. OpenAI's own example, an $89 service call fee for a plumber, includes a price. The requirement is that hints stay accurate as pricing changes, not that pricing is excluded.

How is a context hint different from the ad title and copy?

The title and copy are what a person sees in the ad unit. Context hints are never shown to anyone. They exist only to help OpenAI's system understand when your ad group is relevant, and OpenAI says a hint should add information not already obvious from the ad or landing page.

Do context hints work the same way for a product feed campaign?

Context hints sit at ad group level, and a product feed ad group uses product filters rather than hand written hints for individual items. For a feed based catalogue, see our product feed guide rather than the industry sets below.

What happens if a context hint becomes inaccurate after I write it?

OpenAI is explicit that hints should be updated when features, pricing, promotions, availability or service areas change. A stale hint describing a promotion that ended, or a service area you no longer cover, works against your own relevance.

Can one context hint cover two different customer needs at once?

OpenAI's guidance is one clear idea per hint. A hint trying to cover two needs at once, for example a price point and a delivery area and a use case all in one sentence, is harder for the system to use than three separate, focused hints.
